The Med Trips Elective Grant — £1,000 Medical Elective Funding

Each calendar year we award one grant of £1,000 toward the placement fees of any Med Trips hospital elective or healthcare placement abroad.

Who can apply

Healthcare students aged 18 or over at any university worldwide — including medicine, nursing, midwifery, dentistry, pharmacy, physiotherapy, paramedic science and allied health — plus pre-health students planning a clinical career.

What the grant covers

Up to £1,000 applied directly to your placement fees, which include accommodation, meals, airport pickup, orientation and 24/7 support from our in-country teams. The grant does not cover flights, visas, insurance or vaccinations, and it is not paid as cash.

How to apply

Email hello@medtrips.co.uk with the subject line “Med Trips Elective Grant application”, including:

  • Your full name, university, course and year of study
  • The elective destination and specialty you have in mind, with preferred dates
  • A statement of up to 300 words: what you want from the placement clinically, and why it matters for your training

Timeline and selection

Applications close on 31 May each year and the winner is announced by 30 June. The grant can be used for electives departing within the following 12 months. Applications are judged on the strength of the statement and the feasibility of the plan. One award is made per year and the decision is final. The winner agrees to be named on this page (first name and university).

Terms

  • One grant of up to £1,000 per calendar year, applied to placement fees only
  • Not transferable and not redeemable as cash; excludes flights, visas, insurance and vaccinations
  • Application details are used only to administer the grant
