The Medical Internship Program in Jaipur is designed for Pre-Medical, Pre-Nursing, Medical, and Nursing students who wish to broaden their understanding of the Indian healthcare system and observe medical practices in a real-world setting.

This placement forms part of a wider selection of medical electives in India, giving students the opportunity to observe healthcare delivery across diverse hospital environments while gaining valuable international exposure.

Interns are placed in mid-range private hospitals in Jaipur, typically located within 5–8 km of the accommodation. These hospitals have a 50–100 bed capacity and are staffed by full-time doctors, nurses, and support teams who provide continuous patient care.

These are the main areas where interns are placed to observe and learn. 

The internship is mostly observation based and each intern shall shadow, observe and do basic assistance work in the hospital during the period of the internship. Interns work at a full-service hospital placement which offers very good facilities and infrastructure for patient care and treatment.The observership program helps the students to develop skills and knowledge by observing the work of the medical and nursing team.

Intern Roles & Responsibilities

The interns are allowed to support the local staff, do shadowing and observe the working process. Under no circumstance can the interns perform any invasive treatments.

As per the interns’ preference, a visit to a government hospital, a day in a slum clinic and a health check-up day for underprivileged kids can be included in the program.

Requirements & eligibility

Interns must be 18 years or older at the time of joining the internship. As an intern, you should have an open mind and flexible attitude for working in a new and different environment. Medical interns must provide a clean criminal background check report, CV, Passport Copy as well as other documents and credentials pertaining to their qualifications prior to joining the program. Pre Med, Medical, Nursing students and CNA’s can join the program. All students must adhere to professional attire while at the hospitals.

Volunteer work schedule

A typical day

Interns joining the Medical internship program in Jaipur are required to follow a basic routine on a daily basis. It must be noted that every placement functions at a different pace and on separate timelines making the schedule slightly differ at times. A generic daily schedule for interns is as follows;

  • Sunday: Arrival in Jaipur

  • Monday: Orientation + neighborhood familiarization tour. The orientation session will be conducted by the local coordinator, covering topic areas; such as safety, culture, language, places to visit, behavior, food, and other suggestion over things to do in Jaipur

  • Tue to Fri: Internship work

  • Working hours: (subject to hospital choice)- 9:00am-2pm or 10:00am to 4p

Shifts: per the capacity or rotation of the student/ intern. 

Depending upon the working schedule of the paired doctor and area of the hospital an intern is placed, the times and days of work may fluctuate. Your patience and flexibility with these schedule and time shifts are greatly appreciated. 

The same placement schedule continues from the second week onwards

Weekends: Free to explore the city of Jaipur or travel to other locations such as Agra, Pushkar, Udaipur or Delhi.

During weekends, many interns choose to explore the city in more depth, with options such as a full tour of Jaipur offering a structured way to experience the city’s historic landmarks and cultural highlights.

Living

Accommodation & meals

Airport Transfer
Interns are picked up from the Jaipur International Airport by a member of the local coordinating team in Jaipur. Participants already in country can also be picked up from the Jaipur Railway Station or Jaipur International Airport. This needs to be communicated beforehand. We also arrange your drop to the airport when the project is completed. 

Accommodation
While doing the Medical Internship in Jaipur you can choose to stay at one of our Intern home base in North of Jaipur or with a host family. The accommodations are neat and clean and provide interns a home away from home experience. The intern home is equipped with WiFi internet, filtered drinking water, geysers, air coolers, washing machine, western toilets and bunk beds. The home is close to useful amenities like banks, ATMs, currency ex-changers, restaurants, cafes and shopping arcades. 

Host-families are local Indian welcoming families ready to receive you in their home. Rooms are dual sharing and hosts have common wifi, fridge, cooler, geysers, washing machine and purified water. 

All placements are around 20 – 30 minutes from the homes and we help the interns use local transport applications such as Uber. 

Orientation
A half day orientation will be provided by our staff on the next day after your arrival. We cover areas like culture, greetings, locations, transportation etc.

Meals
Indian food is famous around the world for its diverse flavours, colors and aroma. While staying at the Intern home, you would be provided with self-served breakfast and freshly cooked lunch and dinner, we have cooks who work with us from their homes and prepare meals for the interns and deliver to our accommodation. A sample of the meals you can expect are mentioned below.

Self-served breakfast – Bread, Tea (chai), Jam, Butter, Porridge, Poha, eggs, etc.
Lunch and dinner – Dal (lentils), vegetable, rice, roti (indian bread), yogurt may be provided along with some sort of curry.

Interns staying at home-stays will have a more traditional Indian breakfast like Poha, Paratha, Poori-sabji, toast, etc. while lunch and dinner are same traditional vegetarian food. 

During Your Free Time
During the free time interns can visit the local markets and the different restaurants in Jaipur and try out the different Indian cuisines. During weekends interns explore Jaipur or visit Agra, Delhi or head out to Udaipur or Pushkar.
