Join Med Trips in Tanzania for an unforgettable two-week journey that combines meaningful medical placement with cultural immersion and African adventure. Based in the vibrant city of Arusha, participants will gain valuable exposure to Tanzania’s healthcare system through hospital placements, community outreach camps, and interaction with local medical professionals. Beyond clinical learning, you’ll experience the country’s incredible natural beauty — from safari adventures in Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks to exploring Materuni Waterfalls and local coffee farms near Mount Kilimanjaro. This program is the perfect blend of practical medical experience, cultural exchange, and once-in-a-lifetime exploration, designed for students and aspiring healthcare professionals seeking a truly global perspective on medicine.

Requirements & eligibility

All group members must be 18 years or older at the time of joining the Tanzania Group Medical experience. You should have an open mind and flexible attitude for working in a new and different environment. All students must provide additional documents such as Resume/CV, statement of motivation, list of preferred departments at least 45 days prior to joining the program. The Group medical experience is open for current students or recent graduates of medical studies program. This includes pre-medical, medicine, nursing, public health, pre-nursing students. Students in Pre medical courses such as biomedical science and health sciences are also eligible to join the program. The trip is available for faculty led group trips from university/college students as well as a group of friends coming together to do the trip.

Accommodation & meals

Airport Transfer
Airport transfers (bothways) will be provided to the group from Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO)

Orientation
Each group shall be provided with a comprehensive orientation on the next day after arrival.The Orientation session covers areas like, local Thai culture, greetings, locations, transportation etc. Groups are also given a half day city tour of Chiang Mai and are given a cultural welcome dinner to make them feel immersed in the local culture.

Accommodation

Group members are accommodated in a dedicated intern/volunteer house in Arusha. Housing is in shared rooms (private room upgrades may be available on request).

The house features:

  • Comfortable shared rooms with options for private upgrades

  • A staffed kitchen with freshly prepared meals

  • A spacious common area for relaxation and socializing

  • Games such as snooker and table tennis

  • Wi-Fi access throughout the house

  • CCTV surveillance and a security guard on duty

Located around 25 minutes on foot from Arusha’s main clock tower, the accommodation offers a safe and convenient base for interns. Laundry can be done by hand in the designated washing area or provided to helpers at an additional cost.

The house has the capacity to accommodate more than 50 participants, creating a vibrant and social environment.

Local Transportation
All local transportation for transfers to hospitals, sightseeing locations and safari trip are included in the program. The group members will need to use local taxis for any personal commute outside the program itinerary.

A one-off application fee ($249 / £179 / €229 / AU$350) is charged in addition to the program fee — valid for one year, during which you may enrol in multiple programs. A 5% international banking fee applies to credit-card payments in USD or AUD.

Apply as early as you can — places on the Tanzania Group Medical Experience – Custom Groups Only are limited and confirmed in the order they come in. Your application fee stays valid for a full year, and the balance can be paid in instalments up to 45 days before you start.

Who can take part, and is there an age limit?

The minimum age is 18 years. Most nationalities are welcome — you just need an open mind, reasonable fitness and respect for local customs in Tanzania. A clear background check is required for any role working with children.

Where will I stay in Tanzania?

You stay in a shared student house or with a vetted host family in Tanzania, with meals provided as listed for your programme. Private-room and upgraded-accommodation options are usually available on request.

How long can I do my elective for?

This programme runs for 2 Weeks. If you would like to stay longer or combine it with another project in Tanzania, our team can tailor your itinerary.

Most students travel to Tanzania on a standard tourist visa; you will receive full visa guidance and a recommended-vaccination checklist in your pre-departure manual. Valid travel-medical insurance is required and can be arranged through us at a nominal cost.
